If Golf is not your thing, all is not lost!

At many golf courses and destinations, those who are not golf fans are left to twiddle their thumbs in the clubhouse because there's not a lot else to do. Not so in Inverness where the Central Highlands offer a wide range of activities and recreation, whatever the weather and whatever the time of year.

Indoor Bowls

In 1999, the new Inverness and District and Indoor Bowling Club built their new rink in the grounds of Fairways just next to Loch Ness Golf Course. There are 6 lanes and the club is open all year round.

Petanque

The concept of the game of Petanque is simple and similar to bowls, i.e. resting your boule closer to the jack than your opponent. However, instead of rolling wooden bowls over an immaculately maintained lawn, Petanque is played on an easily maintained area of fairly level "rough" ground with metal boule rolled or tossed to the jack.

The Inverness Petanque Club was formed in 1997 and moved to its new home at Fairways in 2002. Their 15 lane piste is one of the best in Highlands and has attracted much comment from players throughout Scotland. The Club meets on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons in the summer and on a Sunday afternoon in the winter. The piste is available for use by non-members and all the equipment can be hired from Fairways.

Woodland Trails

So that non-golfers can enjoy the stunning views from the golf course there are three forest walks that take you from the clubhouse around the golf course and back to the clubhouse. All of these routes will give you a view of the City, the Moray Firth and the surrounding countryside. There are three to choose from, varying in length from 1.8km to 3.5km and all are on paths or tracks so are suitable for all able walkers. Some parts of the walks are also suitable for disabled people and wheelchairs.
